A new queen begins her reign

Staff and residents at Capitol Hill Healthcare have welcomed a new queen. During an evening of elegance May 16, Etherine Lassister, 94, wowed the judges to become the 2019 Ms. Capitol Hill Healthcare. The former teacher was chosen based on a number of areas including presentation, biography and overall personality. However, it was during her interview when Lassister really impressed the audience. She gave a stirring, impromptu rendition of “Take My Hand, Precious Lord.”

“We were so amazed and in awe at the beauty of it all,” said Amaryllis Pearson, Capitol Hill’s recreation therapist. “She is very articulate and has a rich history and background.”

Lassister is a widow and has one son and two grandchildren. Originally from Jackson, Alabama, she enjoys playing the piano, sewing and cooking. During her reign, she will be an advocate for residents at the facility and help shine a positive light on being a part of a long-term care community.
